The Lawhill apartments are perfectly situated for those looking to explore Cape Town’s top attractions, including the iconic V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, and a variety of shops, restaurants, markets, museums, and galleries. At Tuningi, you’ll enjoy expertly guided game drives, bush walks, and photographic safaris, along with a variety of engaging activities designed especially for children.
Who is this South Africa trip for? This trip has been thoughtfully designed for a family of four (two adults and two children), but each itinerary is fully customizable. If you are traveling with a larger group or family, we can recommend alternative accommodation options, adjust the itinerary, or change the number of days to suit your preferences.
Days 1–5 CAPE TOWN
Days 5–9 MADIKWE GAME RESERVE
On the fifth day of your family safari, you’ll depart from the Lawhill Luxury Apartments and head back to Cape Town International Airport for your flight to Madikwe Game Reserve (via Johannesburg), where you’ll stay at Tuningi Safari Lodge for four nights. This lodge is beautifully situated amidst the rolling hills of the western reserve, with buildings constructed from timber, stone, and thatch to create an authentic safari atmosphere. The communal areas are spacious and inviting, featuring comfortable lounges, open-air dining spaces, a fire-pit, and a swimming pool. All guest accommodation is connected to the main lodge via wooden walkways and includes two family suites, each with two en-suite double bedrooms, a kitchenette, a dining area, and a living room that leads out onto a charming deck. From here, as well as from the lodge, you’ll have views of the busy waterhole in front of the camp, where you can often spot local wildlife.
Tuningi offers a variety of activities focused on game drives and walking safaris. However, there are age restrictions for the safaris themselves. That said, the lodge is committed to keeping younger guests entertained with a range of activities throughout the day. Children under 5 can enjoy their own ‘bumbles,’ a special type of game drive, while treasure hunts, clay modelling, drawing, and T-shirt painting are also on offer. At dinner time, the little ones can dine in the lodge’s traditional boma with a chef or even make their own pizzas and cupcakes. A nanny is available to supervise these activities, and the rangers are fantastic at engaging children and showing them around the reserve!
