Accommodation in Akagera National Park

Magashi Camp

Magashi is a newly launched luxury accommodation found in the North of Akagera National Park, Northeast Rwanda, it is slowly becoming a tourist’s favorite spot inside Akagera National Park. 

The camp can be accessed by boat hence giving you a unique and pure African safari experience right before your first night.  Akagera and Magashi camps are 2 hours away from Rwanda’s capital – Kigali 

Magashi offers accommodation in six luxury guest tents which can accommodate a maximum of 2 guests sharing per room.

Ruzizi Tented Lodge

Ruzizi is a luxury eco-lodge located on the banks of Lake Ihema of Akagera National Park

Its nine (9) tents are set back from Ihema’s serene shores and hidden among swaying palms and fruiting fig trees. They flank a thatched reception and dining area, and wooden walkways lead to a stunning deck that hangs over the lake. The capacity of this property is 20 guests.

Each tent boasts an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, a dressing area, and a cozy queen bed (alternatively, guests can request two beds), get in touch!

All tents have shaded verandas containing campaign chairs and a tree-trunk table.

Akagera Transit Lodge

Located two hours away from Kigali city, Akagera Transit Lodge is a community lodge made of a blend of luxury and traditional settings tucked inside the community surrounding Akagera National Park. The lodge is located 2 kilometers from the lodge. 

Akagera Transit Lodge gives accommodation in thirteen (13) rooms alongside the coffee shop, restaurant, and bar. Other additional services include laundry, bathroom items, WiFi, and the fire place for cooling off after a days’ adventure.

Akagera Rhino Lodge

Located 10 minutes from the entry to Akagera National Park and 2 hours away from Kigali City, the Rhino lodge has become a prime home for many park visitors. 

The lodge was strategically built on a hill next to Lake Ihema and overlooking Lake Akagera National Park hence offering an opportunity for scenic views.

Each room is outfitted with premium mattresses, custom furnishings and bathrooms stocked with locally- sourced toiletries. Wood and stone have been crafted by local artisans into custom rooms and furnishings. 

Each of the rooms is a part of a self-contained cottage with a view of Lake Ihema and woody savannah hillsides, a large terrace with lounge chairs, and a sufficient distance from other rooms to allow for the exclusive enjoyment of nature around you.

Accommodation in Nyungwe National Park

One and Only Nyungwe House

One and Only Nyungwe House is situated in Gisakura, Nyamasheke Nyungwe Forest Reserve, Rwanda, just two hours from Kigali city. This luxury accommodation has become tourists’ favorite due to the evergreen forest and rich tea plantations of Gisakura surrounding it. It is right on the edge of Nyungwe National Park.

One and Only Nyungwe House offers accommodation in two unique rooms namely; the Forest suite and the Nyungwe room. Mountain Gorilla View Lodge

Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is a mid-range accommodation found in the Musanze district of northern Rwanda in Volcanoes National Park. MGVL is one of the 3B Hotels operating in Rwanda. 

It is just 10 minutes from the park and 100 km from Kigali. The lodge was built at the bottom of Virunga Mountain ranges and surrounded by scenic views of the volcanoes giving guests tremendous experiences. 

The lodge is comprised of 40 cottages which are made of stone and thatch with spacious and comfortable rooms. All rooms have hot showers, flushing toilets inside, and other private facilities. Dining is at an individual table in the room. Additionally, there is a balcony for views.

Residents can use available facilities and services at the lodge which include; a restaurant and bar, calm ample parking space, laundry services, a craft shop with African craft style, a campfire that gives warmth to visitors, and others.

Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel

Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel is located in Buvungira Cell of Bushekeri Sector of Nyamasheke district of the Western Province of Rwanda. The lodge was built on one of the hills in Nyungwe National Park. The hotel is just 30 minutes drive from the shore of Lake Kivu, another popular place of interest for travelers.  

The ground floor, where you find the reception, is furnished with a few modern angular sofas and walls adorned with traditional Rwandan murals. Circular wicker lights hang from the ceiling and dark tiled stairs lead you up to a mezzanine balcony. Whereas the basement cubicle hosts administration offices, the reception, kitchen, store, and the laundry, it is the second level that hosts the dining area and the bar both with tables and chairs set on a rather out-of-place black-tiled floor and a sweeping veranda with all-weather tables and chairs of steel and molded materials. The views from here are stunning and on clear days you can even see Lake Kivu and the volcanoes of far North Rwanda and the Eastern the Democratic Republic of Congo. The bar on this level is entirely decorated from bottle tops, giving it a bright but simple look.

Virunga Lodge

Located right next to the volcanoes, Virunga Lodge is one of the most popular properties in Volcanoes National Park. The lodge has been operational since 2004 hence winning the hearts of many park visitors. The lodge is just 2 hours away from Kigali city and only 40 minutes drive to Volcanoes National Park Headquarters. 

Virunga Lodge offers accommodation in ten unique bandas each consisting of a private terrace from which guests can watch the sunrise over the landscape of mountains and lakes. The two deluxe bandas named after the lakes Ibirunga and Ibiyaga have their own private sitting room and more refined interiors, and a large terrace overlooking the majestic Virunga volcanoes or the twin lakes.

Singita Kwitonda Lodge

Named after the legendary silverback gorilla, Singita Kwitonda is one of the finest luxury accommodations in Ruhengeri. The lodge shares a 1.2km border with Volcanoes National Park making it very accessible and ideal for resting after the gorilla adventure. 

The lodge offers breathtaking views of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga, and Muhabura volcanoes and is surrounded by high-altitude forests.

Songa Amakoro Lodge

Songa Amakoro Lodge is located in Kinigi Village outside Parc de Volcans. The lodge is 2 hours and 30 minutes away from Kigali city. The time distance between park headquarters and the lodge is only 30 minutes.

The Lodge was named after the black volcanic rocks that characterize Kinigi village, home to the Mountain Gorillas. The lodge is set on a seven-acre plot with beautifully manicured lawns, surrounded by the Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabinyo mountain volcanoes. 

The cottages at Amakoro Songa Lodge are furnished with rustic elegance, fusing local and modern pieces that create a good warmth and comfort. The spacious rooms, each equipped with a fireplace, allow guests to opt for a post-trekking massage.

Sabinyo Silverback Lodge

Sabyinyo is a two-hour drive from Kigali City. It is located adjacent to Volcanoes National Park in north-western Rwanda and is only approximately 3 km from the main entrance to the park. This is a community-owned accommodation.

The lodge was built and is operated by Governors’ Camp Collection, but the ownership rests with a Community Trust, SACOLA (Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association) which uses rentals and community fees from the lodge to drive socio-economic and conservation initiatives in the communities adjacent to the National Park.

The lodge offers accommodation in six cottages, two suites, and one family cottage. All cottages are spacious and private, comprising a sheltered veranda, sitting room with fireplace, bedroom, dressing room, and bathroom.

The family cottage comprises two independent ensuite rooms connected by a shared verandah.
