This combined 9-day tour offers an unforgettable experience of lowland and mountain gorilla trekking in both Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. You can select the 9-day Congo Gorilla Safari to enjoy an immersive gorilla trekking adventure in Kahuzi Biega National Park, home to the eastern lowland gorillas. This is followed by a journey to Rwanda for chimpanzee trekking and mountain hikes.

Day 1: Kigali to Bukavu
You will transfer from Kigali to Bukavu. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a Golden Rwanda Safari Experiences guide, who will escort you to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. During the journey, enjoy the stunning views of Rwanda’s rolling hills as you pass through various districts, eventually reaching the Congo-Rwanda border at Bukavu.
Border arrangements will be finalized, and you will cross into Congo.
Your dinner and overnight stay will be at Orchids Safari Club.
Day 2: Chimpanzee at Jane Goodall Lwiro Chimps Sanctuary
After an early morning breakfast, you will embark on a drive in a safari jeep to visit Jane Goodall Lwiro Chimps Sanctuary in Kahuzi-Biega. Here, you will receive a briefing about the sanctuary and its important conservation efforts.
Following the visit, you will return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay at Orchids Safari Club.
Day 3: First Lowland Gorilla Trekking
During the First gorilla trekking activity, you will be allowed to stay with the Eastern lowland gorillas for 1 hour for observation and photography as you watch them play in the wild with their young ones. After this gorilla-watching experience, you will return to the park headquarters, where you will find the driver waiting for you, and straight away, you will be driven back to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. Day 4: Second Gorilla Trekking and Back to Nyungwe
In your second gorilla trekking activity, you will spend 1 hour observing and photographing the Eastern lowland gorillas in their natural habitat. Watch them interact, play, and care for their young ones as you experience a truly unforgettable encounter.
After this remarkable experience, you will return to the park headquarters where your driver will be waiting. You will be driven back to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5: Nyungwe Forest for Chimpanzee Tracking
Today, you will spend the day in Nyungwe Forest. Early in the morning, you will embark on a chimpanzee tracking adventure, returning to the hotel for lunch.
In the afternoon, you may choose to explore the Canopy Bridge trail, offering stunning views of the forest from above. Afterward, you will return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Nyungwe to Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, you will drive towards Gisenyi. En route, enjoy the stunning views of Rwanda’s rolling hills and the serene beauty of Lake Kivu. A stop will be made at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel for lunch.
Following lunch, you will continue your journey to Volcanoes National Park. Your overnight stay will be at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.
Day 7: Mountain Gorilla Trekking
Early in the morning, after breakfast, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park for your first gorilla trek. Before your tour, you will arrive at the main office at 7:00 am for a short briefing and coffee break. Your overnight stay will be at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.
Day 8: Golden Monkey Trekking
On this day, you will visit the golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park. Be at the main office by 7:00 AM for a brief orientation before starting your trek.
After returning at lunchtime, enjoy an afternoon visit to the Ibyiwacu Culture Village Center.
You will then return to the hotel for dinner.
Day 9: Volcanoes Back to Kigali for a City Tour
After a late breakfast, you will drive back to Kigali. Your first stop will be the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you will pay tribute and learn about the history of the Rwandan Genocide.
Next, visit the local market for some shopping, offering an opportunity to explore Rwandan culture and crafts.
Afterward, you will return to your hotel to pack your luggage and proceed towards the airport for departure. A short city tour will be included en route to Kigali Airport for your flight.
