4-Day Chimpanzee & Gorilla Trekking Rwanda & Congo (DRC)
Overview
Embark on a four-day chimpanzee and gorilla trekking adventure in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Visit Kahu Biega National Park for Easternland gorilla trekking and Nyungwe Park for chimpanzee trekking and a canopy walk. Straddling the Albertine Rift and the Congo Basin, Kahuzi Biega National Park serves as an exceptional habitat for the protection of the rainforest easternland gorillas. A double-entry visa Rwanda can be obtained the airport upon arrival while the visa for the DRC will be issued at the point of entry.
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
After an early morning breakfast at your residence or hotel, your guide will meet and greet you and provide a briefing for the chimpanzee and lowland gorilla trekking activities. Following the briefing, you will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to pay your respects to the victims of the 1994 Rwanda Genocide against the Tutsi.
This will be followed by a transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Overnight stay will be at Ken Barham Guesthouse or a similar accommodation.
Day 2: Rwanda Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk, Nyungwe NP
At 4:30 AM, enjoy an early morning breakfast or opt for a packed breakfast. This will be followed by a meeting with the ranger guide at Gisakura, and then a transfer to Cyamudongo or Uwinka Visitors Center to begin chimpanzee trekking.
After the trek, a canopy walk starting at Uwinka Visitors Center will follow, leading you to Lake Kivu, Cyangungu. Overnight stay will be at Emeraude Kivu Resort or a similar accommodation.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking – Kahuzi Biega NP
After an early morning breakfast, ensure you have your passport ready for border crossing at Rusizi (1). Proceed to Kahuzi Biega National Park for lowland gorilla trekking upon arrival.
You will be accompanied by the ranger guide and a team of trackers as you hike into the forest in search of the gentle giants. Once located, you will spend one hour observing them closely. After the experience, return to the starting point and transfer back to Bukavu or, if time allows, to Rwanda via the border crossing.
Overnight stay will be at Nediva Bed & Breakfast or a similar accommodation.
Day 4: Kahuzi Biega NP, DRC – Kigali, Rwanda
After an early breakfast, begin your journey back to Kigali, marking the end of the 4-day Chimpanzee & Gorilla Trekking adventure in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Upon arrival in Kigali, your driver-guide will drop you at your planned hotel or at the airport for your outbound flight back home.
End.
