Wild bonobos are exclusively found in the forests south of the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Sometimes referred to as the pygmy chimpanzee, bonobos were not recognized as a separate species until 1929. The western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) is one of two critically endangered subspecies of the western gorilla, inhabiting montane, primary, and secondary forests, as well as lowland swamplands in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central Africa.

Day 1: Pick-up at Bukavu

We will pick you up at Bukavu and then drive to Orchids Safari Club. The western lowland gorilla is one of two critically endangered subspecies of the western gorilla, inhabiting montane, primary, and secondary forests, as well as lowland swamplands in Central Africa, including Angola, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

After check-in, spend your evening relaxing at the hotel.

Day 2-3: Kahuzi-Biega National Park

After the visit, return to the hotel for dinner.After breakfast, you will drive towards Kahuzi-Biega National Park for a lowland gorilla trekking experience and to immerse yourself in the park’s stunning natural surroundings. Following the trek, we will return to the hotel for lunch.

In the afternoon, you can choose to relax at the hotel or explore the city of Bukavu, depending on the duration of your gorilla experience. Your driver-guide will take you back to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4: Bukavu to Goma and Fly to Kinshasa

Today, we will fly from Bukavu to Kinshasa and transfer to the hotel. In Kinshasa, you will go on a city tour, exploring the vibrant capital. You will then check into the Kempinski Fleuve Congo Hotel, offering river views.

Enjoy dinner and spend the night in the heart of the city. Prepare for your morning bonobo experience.

All transportation costs, accommodation, activities (unless optional), and taxes/VAT are included.

Day 5: Kinshasa to Lola Ya Bonobos

1 Day Lola ya Bonobo Sanctuary Tour; Visit Ma Valle & Lukaya - Congo Gorilla Safaris Tours

Wild bonobos can only be found in the forests south of the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Sometimes referred to as the pygmy chimpanzee, bonobos were not recognized as a separate species until 1929. Bonobos are distinguished by longer legs, shorter arms, and a narrower trunk. They are generally smaller, with a rounder skull and flatter face. Other features include a black face with red lips and a prominent tail tuft, which is retained by adults—unlike chimpanzees, who only have the tuft in the juvenile stage.

After these insightful activities, you will drive back to the hotel for dinner.

Day 6: Trip back to Goma or fly home from Kinshasa

You can either fly to Goma, or you can fly home from Kinshasa. Otherwise you can cross the border to Rwanda or Uganda. This is the end of your once-in-a-lifetime experience with us
