Days 1–4 CAPE TOWN
For the first part of your family adventure, you’ll fly to Cape Town! From there, you’ll head to the foothills of Table Mountain to stay at More Quarters for three nights. This family-friendly property welcomes children of all ages, and families of up to two adults and two children will be comfortably accommodated in a two-bedroom luxury apartment. Each apartment is individually decorated and features a kitchen area, lounge, bathroom, and amenities such as room service and satellite television.
More Quarters is the perfect base from which to explore Cape Town. The vibrant Kloof Street, with its shops, restaurants, and cafés, is within walking distance, as is the iconic Table Mountain. The city offers a wealth of other exciting excursions, including visits to the V&A Waterfront, the Two Oceans Aquarium, and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Days 4–7 HERMANUS
The next leg of your ultimate South Africa family holiday takes you to Hermanus, a charming coastal town approximately two hours’ drive from Cape Town. Renowned for offering the best land-based whale watching in the world (from June to October), Hermanus is a relatively small town with a selection of bars and restaurants. The region is beautiful when the weather is pleasant, and the water-based safaris are exceptional year-round.
Hermanus is a fantastic destination to visit throughout the year, and you’ll spend three nights at Mosaic Private Sanctuary. This adventurous property offers a variety of activities that are perfect for families. Overlooking a scenic lagoon, the sanctuary boasts spectacular views and is ideally located for exploring local attractions such as Panthera Africa and Shark Alley, both of which are close by.
Days 7–10 MADIKWE GAME RESERVE
From Hermanus, you’ll return to Cape Town International Airport for your flight to Madikwe Game Reserve, where you’ll stay for three nights at Lelapa Lodge. The name Lelapa means ‘family,’ and this lodge truly caters to families. There are no age restrictions, and the staff go out of their way to ensure that everyone feels welcome and at home. The communal areas include a comfortable lounge and dining room, both offering breathtaking views over the reserve, as well as a swimming pool – perfect for a refreshing dip!
The family suite category is particularly inviting, featuring a cozy wood-burning fireplace, both indoor and outdoor showers, and your very own plunge pool. When it comes to activities, Lelapa is exceptional. The property is home to an eco-house, an educational and entertainment center designed for children and anyone curious about the wild world and its inhabitants. Other activities for kids include bush orientation, family safari drives, bug CSI, dung tracking, creating plaster of Paris tracks, baking in the kitchen, making pizzas in the boma, stargazing, game nights, and even washing the safari vehicle! With so many exciting things to do, set in a Big Five environment, Lelapa is a fantastic place for families. And parents can enjoy some time to themselves, whether on safari or simply relaxing, while the staff entertain the kids.
