Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest national park and protected area with the world’s most powerful waterfall (Murchison falls also known as Kabalega falls). Murchison Falls National Park offers exciting activities like a boat cruise, game viewing with sights of savannah elephants, lions, hippos, Lake Chad buffalos, Nubian giraffes and many others. The park also features Kaniyo Pabidi forest which harbours chimpanzees as well as a good number of bird species. The boat cruise is operated by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) but there are other private operators like Paara safari lodge and wild frontiers. All these offer daily trips twice a day, in the morning and afternoon. Morning departures are between 08:00AM to 9:00AM and afternoon hours between 14:00PM to 15:00PM. The boat cruise is a 3 hour launch trip to the base of Murchison Falls. Along the stretch, you see open savannah grasslands on the northern side of the river and shrubs on the southern side of the river. Game viewing along the way is excellent seeing animals like Nile crocodiles, hippos. Elephants and other animals may be seen on the shores. The bird life is diverse with species like Piapiac, African fish eagle, herons, egrets, African skimmers and you also come across Red throated bee-eaters on the Nyamsika cliff which acts as their breeding area.
