Best time of the Year for Zanzibar Island Tours
The best time of the year to visit the scenic Zanzibar Island is in the months of June to October (dry season). The other months of the year with a short dry season are from December to February which is also a good time to visit Zanzibar.
For Scuba diving in Zanzibar, the best time of the year is July, August, February, and March. Diving off the north coast is particularly good from June to October and off the south coast between November and March.
From mid-march to late May and November, it is mostly the rainy season and not recommended for Zanzibar Island tours.
Zanzibar Island activities / what to do
Prison island tour
Using an engine wooden boat, you will take a ride to the island which takes about an hour. The main attraction at the island are the giant tortoises and you get an opportunity to feed them.
Jozani forest
Located about 45 minutes from stone town. Once you arrive, you start with a briefing and then take a guide nature walk through the forest as the guide equips you with more information about the area. You will come across several plant species and some animals like Red-colobus monkeys.
Spice tour
Take a visit to the spice farms. This tour exposes you to several spices like cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper, and several others that are used in the preparation of food.
Stone town
This is a UNESCO world heritage site with several cultural and historical sites to be visited. Some of these sites include; the sultan’s palace, slave markets, tip’s house, cathedrals. The stone town attracts people from all over the world who indulge in the beauty of the white beaches and learn the people’s history and culture.
Dolphin tour and snorkeling
This is one of the best activities to do while visiting Zanzibar. Dolphins can be seen swimming as you cruise on the boat. During the tour, you may also see species like octopuses, stonefish, scorpionfish, angels, and many others.
Visit the old slave market. The Anglican cathedral was built on the site of the old slave market alongside Creek Road. While nothing remains of it today, it is still a sobering reminder of the not-so-distant past.
