Detailed Itinerary – 8 Days Tanzania Budget Safari

Day 1: Arrive Nairobi or Kilimanjaro Airport; Drive to Moish

On the first day of your 8 Days Tanzania Safari, your Jewel Safaris guide will pick you up at either Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi or Kilimanjaro Airport.  From the airport, you will drive south to the town of Moshi, at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. This journey will take a couple of hours from the Kilimanjaro Airport, and 6-7 hours from Nairobi, including crossing the Kenya/Tanzania border. Your guide will stop on the way for lunch at a local Tanzanian restaurant so you can taste some local dishes.  In addition, there are a number of craft shops selling locally made Maasai arts and crafts, where you are most welcome to stop and have a look around. You will be taken to your accommodation in Moshi for check-in and relaxation. Moshi is a small town at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro and a very popular spot for people about to climb the mountain.  There are many small hotels, restaurants, and craft shops in town.

Overnight at the preferred accommodation facility.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

After breakfast on the second day of your 8 Days Tanzania safari, you will be driven to Tarangire National Park, about a 2-hours journey.  You will be taken to your hotel for check-in, relaxation, and lunch.

Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park

After lunch, you will go for an afternoon Game Drive in the Park. The Tarangire National Park is part of a larger ecosystem that has varied topography and wildlife inhabitants. There are many opportunities to encounter a wide variety of mammals and predators here. Before nightfall, you will return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Overnight at the preferred accommodation facility.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park

After an early breakfast on the third day of your 8 Days Tanzania safari, you will be taken on an all-day safari in Tarangire National Park.  The early morning Game Drives tend to be the most intense, as many animals avoid the high temperatures that occur later in the day.  Many predators, such as lions, seek out shelter when the heat is intense and conversely, in the cooler times of the day, they are out hunting.  It is very likely you will see a ‘kill’ in the early hours of the day. Lunch will be a picnic in the park, a traditional Safari adventure on its own. Sitting and having lunch while viewing the roaming animals as they pass by.

Overnight at the preferred accommodation facility.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Rim

After breakfast on the fourth day of your 8 Days Tanzania safari, you will drive to the fabled Ngorongoro Crater.  You will be guided around the rim of the Crater with the help of a park ranger, as well as a Maasai guide. This will be done with the aid of donkeys.  This particular game viewing is spectacular, as the vistas from the rim are breathtaking.

You will follow the track around the rim through open woodland and acacia forests.  To the right you will stop at a simple camp set up in a remote location where one of the significant rivers flows off the highlands, entering the crater below. Here at the camp, you will be served lunch. In the late afternoon, you will then be taken to your lodge for an evening relaxation as you wait for dinner.

Overnight at the preferred accommodation facility.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive

After an early breakfast on the fifth day of your 8 Days Tanzania safari, you will go on a morning Game Drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater itself.  As with the morning game drive you experienced in the Tarangire National Park, you will see predators out hunting in the cooler temperatures of the early morning. Lunch will be a picnic on the Crater Floor.  The floor itself is busy with many herds moving about and grazing on the green pastures. After the lunch break, you will proceed with the afternoon game drive. The crater is not very large but the density of the wildlife within its boundaries is astonishing. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Overnight at the preferred accommodation facility.

Day 6: Serengeti National Park & Olduvai Gorge

After breakfast on the sixth day of your 8 Days Tanzania safari, you will depart Ngorongoro for the Serengeti National Park, which starts at the western edge of the Crater.    En route, you will pass via Olduvai Gorge, one of the more famous spots for travelers to visit.  You will be taken directly to your lodging in the Serengeti for relaxation and lunch. After lunch, you will go on an afternoon Game Drive in the Serengeti. The Serengeti is the most diverse ecosystem of all the parks and protected areas in East Africa.  Its size is such that even though this is the most visited of all wildlife spots, it is rare to encounter other tourists and other vehicles. Before nightfall, return to your lodge for a rest and dinner.

Overnight at preferred accommodation facility.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park Game Drive

After an early breakfast, you will be taken on a morning game drive.  These are the most intense of the wildlife viewing venues, and the most memorable of times for most visitors to the Serengeti.  Your guide will take you off in a totally different direction, so you can visit another unique sector of this huge park. You will return for lunch at your lodge. After lunch, you will be taken on an afternoon Game Drive. This time to yet another totally different area, to seek out the wildlife that inhabits this sector.  Serengeti is not just vast plains with herds roaming and grazing, there are wetlands, swamps, rivers, and forested areas.  During the course of the day, you will be taken to a number of these totally different areas.

Before nightfall, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Overnight at the preferred accommodation facility.

Day 8: Depart For the Airport

After breakfast on the last day of your 8 Days Tanzania safari, you will start your journey through the park to either Kilimanjaro Airport or Nairobi Airport, depending on where your departure is from. En route, you will have the opportunity to stop and visit the Maasai gift shops on the road to purchase any souvenirs or gifts.  In addition, lunch at a local Tanzanian restaurant will be provided, where you will be able to try some interesting and unusual local dishes.

Jewel Safaris has a jewel in a female driver, Rachel My trip to Lake Mburo National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park on 5th Jan 2024, could not have gone better. My great experience was all down to Jewel Safaris' professionalism and industry experience. The car arrived at my house on time (5 am) to pick me up for the trip. The tour guide driver, a lady named Rachel Aheebwa, was such a delight. Female tour guides drivers are so rare, so this was unexpected. But looking back at how much of a success my tour went, Rachel was the best part of the trip. Two hours into the drive, she suggested a breakfast place that turned out to serve the best coffee I'd ever taken. The small eatery happened to be ran by a lady with tourism experience of 17 years. We set off for Lake Mburo about an hour later and arrived at the park gate three hours later. Because we planned to sleep in Queen Elizabeth National Park and we still had hundreds of kilometers to cover, she made sure we wasted no time Mburo. She was always friendly and firm in her advice when it came to time keeping. We made it to our final destination before dark and had time to rest. Before going to bed, she told me, firmly that we must leave at 7 if we are to see all the animals we wanted to see. I would have loved to sleep in but she made it clear that this was not an option. I was later thankful for this. There were several tourist vehicles at the UWA offices when we arrived. After payments, all the cars left through a Northwards track but Rachel went Eastwards and in less than thirty minutes of Game driving, we hit a jack pot. We found lions on the road and I was able to take close up pictures for several minutes as she made calls to all her friends letting them know that she had found lions. By the time all the vehicles crowded around the lions, I had spend over half an an hour with them. One of the best moments of my life. Jewel safaris couldn't have chosen a better tour guide driver for me. Every thing was well planned to help me see all there was to be seen.

Murchison Falls Adventure This was my first safari adventure and it was a trip of a lifetime. The owner, Dona was very professional and helpful and made sure he understood what we wanted. The vehicle was wonderful and roomy and well kept. Our guide, Patrick made the trip exceptional. He knew the park, he knew the animals and he was a former ranger who spent years protecting the animals of that park. It was clear that the other guides respected him and Patrick was kind, funny and made sure we had a wonderful adventure. The first night, the owner called me to ask how everything was going and he messaged me after the trip to make sure we had a great time. That was above and beyond what I expected. Great company, great customer service and fantastic guide with years of experience. This is the company I would choose over and over.

Two-day trip to Lake Mburo Our two-day trip to Lake Mburo with our driver and guide Patrick was great. He delivered what we asked for, and more! Other than being a very kind person and good driver, Patrick was able to share a lot of information about the different animals and places we encountered. A big thanks to Jewel Safaris and Patrick! 100% Recommend!

Great agency We ordered the trip in 2019 to go to Uganda in April 2020. Then Covid came and the trip was postponed for 2,5 yrs and in the meantime we kept contact and When we finally could go it all went super-smooth. Well organized and very friendly personnel and a fantastic guide. Nothing went wrong during the 10 days we visited and the arrangements were spotless.
