Detailed Itinerary of the  13 Days Wildebeest Migration & Gorilla Trekking

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AND TRANSFER TO KIBALE NATIONAL PARK

On arrival at the airport, you will be picked up by a jewel safaris professional safari driver guide who will brief you about the safari then you will embark on your journey to Kibale National Park which takes about 6 hours. You will arrive in Kibale later in the afternoon.

DAY 2: CHIMPANZEE TRACKING AND BIGODI SWAMP WALK

After your early morning breakfast, you will drive to the chimpanzee briefing point in time for a briefing about the activity. You will be assigned a tracking group and armed game rangers for your safety and security. After the briefing, you will walk through the forest as the ranger keeps in touch with the monitoring team on the ground. This primate walk provides an opportunity to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Upon finding the chimpanzees, you may be able to see them feeding, copulating, hunting, breastfeeding, and resting. We shall later drive back to the lodge for lunch as we prepare for the swamp walk. The swamp is biodiversity rich with species and during the walk, expect to spot bird species such as Great Blue Turaco, Ross’s Turaco, Meyer’s parrot. You may also encounter primate species including Black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and Guereza colobus. Besides the guided swamp walk, you will take a walk through the village for a cultural experience where you will be able to see activities like local liquor making, weaving of baskets, cultural dances, and also paying a visit to the cultural doctor. You will later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: TRANSFER TO BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

Today you will proceed with the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site and home to the famous Mountain Gorillas making it the best place for tracking these gentle giants. You will arrive later in the afternoon for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

DAY 4: GORILLA TREKKING

After morning breakfast, you will have your packed lunch ready then drive to the park headquarters for a briefing before the gorilla trekking activity. You will then be assigned a group to track a particular gorilla family. You will be led into the jungle by an armed ranger who will keep in touch with the monitoring team on the ground in order to easily locate the mountain gorillas. The activity takes between 3-7 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Once you locate the gorilla family, you will be given ample time to watch them in their natural habitat playing, feeding, resting, and going about their daily life. We shall later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 5: TRANSFER TO ENTEBBE

You will have a leisurely transfer to Entebbe, a journey that takes about 8 hours. Arrival at the lodge will be in the evening hours in time for dinner and overnight.

DAY 6: FLY TO ARUSHA – TRANSFER TO NGORONGORO

After early morning breakfast, you will check-in at the airport for your flight to Arusha. On arrival in Arusha, you will take an approximately 4-hour drive to the Ngorongoro conservation area for check-in at the lodge, dinner, and overnight.

DAY 7: MORNING GAME DRIVE – TRANSFER TO SERENGETI

Ngorongoro conservation area is a habitat for a variety of wildlife species like the big five and other animals including; warthogs, zebras, cheetahs, gazelles, and wildebeests. A wide range of birdlife; yellow wagtails, saddle bill storks, flamingos, crowned cranes, white storks can be spotted on a game drive. After the game drive, you will have lunch and then transfer to Serengeti. Depending on the time you arrive in Serengeti, you will have an evening game drive before you check-in at the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 8: FULL DAY GAME DRIVE IN SERENGETI

After morning breakfast, you will head out for a morning game drive to explore the wildlife in Serengeti. Game drives are popular because they enable tourists to spot animals in the park. Serengeti national park has the largest lion population in Africa and is therefore considered a Lion Conservation Unit. A pride of lions can be spotted at the Moru Kopjes rocks stretching while on a game drive. You will also be able to see species like buffaloes, hippopotamus, elephants, and antelopes. After your lunch, we shall have a late afternoon game drive before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 9: GAME DRIVE – RELAXATION

Today you will have a relaxed morning than later in the afternoon, you will have another game drive with chances of seeing gazelles, zebras, monkeys, elands, and other African wildlife. You may also choose to visit the Masaai community. The Masaai are easy-going and welcoming people who have protected their culture for a long time. A visit to their community gives you a feel of their culture which includes traditional dance, traditional food, and some of the traditional beliefs. Head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 10: TRANSFER TO TARANGIRE – AFTERNOON GAME DRIVE

After your early morning breakfast, you will transfer to Tarangire National Park. The park has a wide range of attractions and it is an acknowledged habitat for large herds of elephants. You will arrive in the park in time for an afternoon game drive where you will catch sight of several animals like zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, and so many other species. After the game drive, you will proceed to check-in at the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 11: GAME DRIVE – RELAXATION

After breakfast, you will head out for a morning game drive giving you an opportunity to spot more animal species like the Greater Kudu, the Fringed-eared Oryx, as well as a few Ashy Starlings. Later we shall return to the lodge for lunch and have an afternoon relaxation at the lodge.

DAY 12: TRANSFER TO ARUSHA

Today you will transfer to Arusha after your morning breakfast. The journey will take 4 hours approximately, reaching in time for lunch and afternoon relaxation at the lodge.

DAY 13: DEPARTURE 

Day 13 is the last day of the 13 days of Uganda – Tanzania wildlife and primate safari. Depending on the time of your flight, the driver will pick you up from the hotel and drop you off at the airport for your flight back home.
