2 Nights in Chobe Region
The Chobe Region offers an unparalleled African experience, brimming with stunning accommodations, abundant wildlife, and—of course—an extraordinary population of elephants. This region lies at the crossroads of four countries: Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, and Namibia. Kasane, a quaint town, serves as the gateway to this diverse landscape, bordered by Chobe National Park, renowned for its massive herd of Kalahari elephants, and the nearby village of Kazungula, where ferries transport visitors to Zambia and the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls. The park’s varied terrain—ranging from extensive floodplains along the Chobe River to the eerie tree graveyards in Savuti’s marshlands—supports an incredible array of wildlife. Chobe is dotted with lodges, houseboats, and camps ready to welcome visitors, while the town of Kasane offers convenient access for day trips into the park, visits to the Chobe Crocodile Farm, and quick access to Victoria Falls. Daily flights to Kasane Airport depart from Johannesburg, Gaborone, and Maun Airports.
Highlights:
- Known as the Elephant Capital, home to over 120,000 elephants
- Chobe National Park is both Botswana’s first and third largest national park
- A top safari destination for wildlife photographers
- A haven for endangered species like the African wild dog
2 Nights in Savuti Marsh
The expansive wetlands and savannahs of the Savuti Marsh, covering 10,878 square kilometers in Chobe National Park’s western corridor, form a diverse wilderness for its wildlife. Once sustained by an inland lake, the marsh was cut off by tectonic shifts but has since been replenished by the Savuti Channel, a fluctuating water source prone to long dry spells. Since 2010, after nearly 30 years of drought, the channel has flowed again, turning the area into a thriving haven for both aquatic and terrestrial life. The dead trees lining the marsh banks are gradually being replaced by new vegetation. During the dry season, wildlife congregates around the remaining water sources, creating spectacular game-viewing. Lions, cheetahs, elephants, wildebeests, and more are commonly spotted near the water’s edge. The wet season brings an incredible display of birdlife, with over 450 species found in the park. Visitors can also explore the Gubatsa Hills, where ancient San rock art tells the story of the region’s first inhabitants. Fishing, especially for the prized tiger fish, is also gaining popularity in the park.
