Bitukura Family
The Bitukura gorilla family is one of the habituated gorilla families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, located in southwestern Uganda. Please note that circumstances may change, and it’s essential to verify the current status and composition of gorilla families in Bwindi from up-to-date sources, such as the Uganda Wildlife Authority or us. Here is some information about the Bitukura gorilla family- Composition: The Bitukura gorilla family was named after a river in the park. The group was known for having several members, including a dominant silverback, adult females, and younger gorillas.
- Dominant Silverback: In most gorilla families, there is a dominant silverback who leads and protects the group. At the time of my last update, Ndahura was the dominant silverback of the Bitukura family.
- Tourism: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is famous for gorilla trekking, allowing tourists to visit habituated gorilla families like Bitukura. Gorilla trekking is a significant source of revenue for conservation efforts and the local community.
- Conservation: The conservation of mountain gorillas in Bwindi and other parts of the Virunga Massif is of utmost importance. Efforts are made to protect these critically endangered animals from poaching, habitat loss, and disease.
