Day 1: Kampala – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel in Kampala or preferred place of resident, you will be picked up by our driver/ guide and embark on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with a brief stopover at the Uganda Equator for some photos along the Equator crossing. You will have another stopover in Mbarara for lunch at either Agip Motel or Igongo Cultural Center. Continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park while enjoying incredible views of rolling terraced hills and the Ankole long horned cattle. Arrive in the park in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight. After breakfast, you will head to the park’s headquarters for briefing about mountain gorillas, the experience and how to behave while in the forest and in presence of the gorillas. In groups of 8 people, you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and enter into the jungle to search for the gentle giants in their natural setting. The trek takes approximately 20 minutes to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas, along the way you will encounter other primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons and many birds. When you locate the gorillas, you will spend on hour with the gorillas observing their fascinating behavior and how they live in the forests. You are allowed to take pictures for memory purposes, trek back to the park’s headquarters to pick your gorilla trekking certificates, meet your guide and head back to your lodge or to the Batwa Community where you will spend the evening. While in the local villages, you will be entertained by Batwa cultural performances, visit the traditional healers, visit art and craft shops among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. After breakfast, you will checkout of your lodge and transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Kinigi with border crossing at Cyanika – Border, along the way you will have lunch and when you arrive in the evening, you will check in at the lodge for dinner and overnight. After breakfast, you will head to the park’s headquarters where you will meet other trekkers for briefing about golden monkeys and the right way to behave while in their presence. Enter into the forest in search for the golden monkeys found in the Bamboo forests, when you locate the golden monkeys. You will enjoy watching them play on bamboo trees, pick bamboo shots which they feed on and groom each other among others. Trek back to the park’s headquarters, meet your driver-guide and head to the lodge for lunch and short rest. Later, you will checkout and embark on 2 hours’ drive to Kigali City with several steps to admire the scenery of a thousand hills. In Kigali City, you will check-in at the lodge for dinner and overnight.
