Detailed itinerary of 12 days luxury gorilla trekking safari
Day 1: Arrival
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by Jewel Safaris – Safari Guide and transfer you to your already booked hotel in Entebbe for dinner and overnight. Accommodation: Boma – Lake Height HotelMeal Plan: Half Board
Day 2: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park with visit to Rhino Sanctuary
Have breakfast, meet your guide and drive Northwards to Murchison Falls National Park with en-route visit at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola for a guided nature walk offering you an up-close encounter with endangered rhinos. Proceed to the park with another stopover for lunch in Masindi. Arrive at the park in the evening and head straight to your lodge for dinner and overnight. Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise on the Victoria Nile
Have early breakfast and head to the park for an early morning game drive on which you will explore the savannah plains and spot animals like giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, warthogs, bushbucks, Jackson’s hartebeests, duikers, jackals, hare and many birds.Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you will go for a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. The boat cruise offers you great opportunities to marvel at nature and see animals like hippos, crocodiles in the waters of the river, elephants and buffaloes along the banks of the river and many water species such as herons, grey crested cranes among others. When you reach the bottom of the falls, you will enjoy watching river Nile squeezing through the narrow gorge to form the water falls which falls with a thunderous roar, this point offers great photo opportunities. Day 4: morning boat cruise down to the Delta and afternoon visit to the Local Community
Have breakfast and go for a morning boat trip to the Delta, you will cruise to the Nile Delta Point which is the lowest point in Uganda where River Nile leaves Lake Albert. On the boat cruise, you will be able to see various animals like crocodiles and hippos in the waters and elephants, buffaloes drinking water along the banks and many water birds such as Great Egrets, African fish Eagles, the rare shoe bill among others. After the boat trip, you will head back to the lodge for lunch. In the Afternoon, you will go for a cultural performance at Mubaku Community. You will be entertained by local dances and drama, get a taste of the local cuisine, learn how to make several items from wood among others. Day 5: Drive to Kibale Forest National Park
Have breakfast, checkout of your lodge and set off to Kibale Forest National Park. Along the way you will see locals attending to their gardens and farms, market centers and scenic views of Mount Rwenzori. Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking and Afternoon Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary Walk
Have early breakfast and drive to Kanyanchu Visitor Information Center for registration and briefing, you will be briefed about the right way to conduct yourself while in presence of the chimpanzees our closet relative. As you trek through the Kibale forest, you will be able to see other primates such as olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys and many birds. When you locate the chimpanzees, you are allowed to stay with them for 1 hour observing them go on with their life in the forest of Kibale. You are allowed to take pictures as long as your flashlight is off.Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you will head to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided walk for a closer look to primates such as olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys among others. Day 7: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Evening Game Drive
After breakfast, you will checkout of your lodge and embark on a journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park with a drive on the foothills of Rwenzori Mountains – Mountains of the Moon and on a clear day, you will see the glaciations, banana and tomato plantations and local people going on with their life. On arrival in the park, you will check-in at your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon. You will go for a game drive searching for lions, leopards, Uganda Kob, elephants, buffaloes and abundance of bird life. Day 8: Morning game drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise along the Kazinga Channel
Have early breakfast and head to the park for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains for active game viewing, the area is home to a huge number of Uganda Kob which attracts predators like hyenas, leopards, wild dogs and lions following and ambushing their prey. Return to the lodge for lunch and short rest, in the afternoon you will head to the Kazinga Channel for a boat cruise. This boat cruise provides excellent opportunities for viewing wildlife such as hippos and Nile crocodiles in the waters of the channel, elephants and buffaloes and many birds such as African spool bill, African darters, fish eagles and pelicans along the banks. Day 9: Game Drive in the Ishasha Sector and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Have breakfast and head to the Ishasha Sector for a game drive as you head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with your picnic lunch, during the game drive you will spot the tree climbing lions, topis, hyenas, leopards, elephants and buffaloes among others. Later continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with a drive through hills, mountains and terraced hills with farms. Day 10: Gorilla Trekking Experience
Have early breakfast and head to the park’s headquarters with your packed lunch, join other tourists for briefing about mountain gorilla trekking, what to expect and the proper to act while in the presence of the endangered mountain gorillas. In groups of 8 people, you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and heading to the starting with your armed ranger and guide. Head in the forests of Bwindi Forest looking for mountain gorillas, the trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of mountain gorillas and where they spent the previous night. Upon locating the gorillas, you will have a once-in a lifetime experience of having a face-to-face encounter with the gorillas. After one hour of observing their behaving, watching gorillas care for their babies and silverback protecting the group, you will trek back to the park’s headquarters to pick your gorilla trekking certificates. Day 11: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park – Evening Game Drive
After breakfast, you will set off to Lake Mburo National Park with a drive through the rolling mountains with green terraces cultivated by the Bakiga. Along the way you will have a stopover in Mbarara town for lunch, when you arrive in the park. You will go for an evening – sunset – game drive on which you will see various animals such as buffaloes, impalas, warthogs, leopards, bushbucks and many animals such as Twany eagles and starlings among others. Day 12: Morning game drive and transfer back to Kampala and depart
Have a leisurely breakfast, then embark on a journey to Kampala/Entebbe depending on your flight time. Along the way, you will have a stopover at the Equator crossing for pictures and shop at the souvenir shops. Have lunch in Kampala and then be dropped off at the airport for your onward flight.
