Rich in culture and history, Zanzibar has long captivated adventurers, seafarers, and traders from around the world. Known as the “Spice Island” for its historic trade in cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon, the Zanzibar Archipelago continues to be infused with the intoxicating scents of spices. Traditional dhows still glide serenely across the horizon, a timeless connection to its storied past.
A haven of romance, Mnemba Island is an exclusive paradise featuring just 12 rustically elegant beachside Bandas, including one Family Banda, accommodating only 26 guests. These guests are cared for by a dedicated team, all nestled within the breathtaking setting of the Mnemba Atoll.
Experience an unpretentious paradise on this private island, where the simplest joys transform into cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Drawing inspiration from its stunning beachside location, the island’s 11 Bandas and one Family Banda (complete with an adjoining room perfect for families) are thoughtfully designed to mimic the graceful curves of a nautilus seashell. Each Banda offers a private stretch of pristine beachfront, where secluded yet luxurious Beach Lounges peek out from beneath the gentle shade of casuarina pine trees. Thatched dining areas, bars, and lounges boast uninterrupted views of the beach, with awe-inspiring vistas of Zanzibar in the distance.
For those inclined to linger in the comfort of their Banda, late breakfast trays brimming with tropical fruits, freshly squeezed juices, and Tanzanian coffee can be delivered right to your door. Fresh sushi and chilled champagne may discreetly appear at your Beach Lounge for a private celebration of the spectacular sunset. Candlelit dinners on the beach offer an intimate experience, with the soothing sound of waves lapping at your feet.
Visit the lodge’s Discovery Centre to engage with the extraordinary conservation and community initiatives taking place in and around the Mnemba Atoll. Join the Wild Impact Oceans Without Borders team on their daily excursions to the coral nursery and artificial reef. Alternatively, unwind with yoga sessions or soothing massages at the lodge’s serene Wellness Banda, or within the peaceful retreat of your own Banda.
Your journey to Mnemba Island begins with a private chauffeur from &Beyond, who will pick you up either at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport—Zanzibar’s main airport—or from Stone Town, the island’s historic city center. The airport welcomes flights from East Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, making Mnemba easily accessible.
The road transfer across Unguja takes approximately 1.5 hours, with the final 20 minutes traversing a bumpy, unpaved road.
From there, you’ll embark on a scenic 15-minute boat cruise in an open-top vessel, gliding across crystal-clear waters to reach the island. Since there are no jetties, both your departure and arrival will involve some light wading, but the attentive &Beyond staff will ensure your comfort throughout the process.
Dining at Mnemba Island is an enchanting experience, defined by candlelit dinners on the beach crafted with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
