The Uganda gorilla trekking experience can be done in either Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Gorilla trekking is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, imagine coming face to face with the mountain gorillas, amazing right!!.
The tracking takes you through muddy paths in the forest and this depends on the season you take on the Uganda gorilla tour. Remember to pack the right and perfect clothing for the gorilla trekking safari.
On the morning of the activity, you will wake up to an early breakfast and then drive to the park headquarters in time for the briefing on the rules and regulations of gorilla tracking. The park ranger takes you through the rules and regulations and thereafter you are assigned a group to track/visit a particular gorilla group/family in the company of a ranger guide. Please note that a maximum of 8 people are allowed to visit a gorilla group per day.
As you enter the gorilla sanctuary, you will encounter other primates such as different monkey species swinging on tree branches, not forgetting the melodies of different forest bird species that can be heard and sighted along the way. Make sure to capture every moment of this tracking journey in the Impenetrable Bwindi forest.
Tracking the mountain gorillas may take between 2 hours to a whole day and this depends on certain factors such as the fitness level of the trekkers, the terrain, and the movement of the gorillas. You must be wondering how the ranger guide knows the exact location of the gorilla family? The ranger guide assigned to you keeps in touch with the monitoring team on the ground that keeps updating him in order to easily locate the mountain gorillas.
Once you locate the gentle giants, you are given up to one hour and four hours for the case of gorilla habituation experience. You watch them go about their daily activities/life that is to say, copulating, playing, grooming, and also you may get a chance to see mothers breastfeeding their young ones. Nothing ever prepares you for such a moment. During this moment, you get a chance to ask questions about the mountain gorillas as you also take photographs (Do not use flash photography).
After the magical time with the mountain gorillas, you will start your journey back to the headquarters where you are awarded a certificate on completion of this amazing experience.
We advise that you book your Uganda gorilla safari in advance at least 6 months before since the gorilla tracking permits are very competitive.
