The Shimoni Slave Caves are tucked further away in the village of Shimoni in Kwale County, these rugged ancient caves are a reminder of slave trade which is some of the darkest periods in human history and also a historical gem that goes back many centuries.  The caves cover over 5 kilometers inland and have a complex tunnels that have been used for various functions at different times, the huge stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave represent the age of the caves and while inside the cave you will feel the complete horror surrounding the caves.  In the past that is before the slave trade, the caves were used for spiritual rituals or as hiding place during wars.

The Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest is one of the oldest forests on the South Coast of Kenya, the forest spreads out along the coast province of Kenya approximately 200 kilometers. There are ten separate forested sites mostly on low hills ranging in size from 30 to 300 ha which are the remains of fortified villages.  The forest hosts over 187 plant species, 48 species of birds and 45 species of butterflies representing five percent of Kenya’s known butterfly species. There is also the rare Zanji Elephants Shrew and threatened Colobus monkeys among others.  A tour in the sacred forest of Kinondo forest will leave you enlightened on the cultural and spiritual importance of the forest to the Digo people.
