Mountain gorilla families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Mountain gorillas live in family groups that are headed by an adult male silverback. the population of mountain gorillas in Uganda is spread in different family groups in the four sectors within the park, that is to say Ruhija, Buhoma, Rushaga and Nkuringo. Rushaga is the only sector that facilitates gorilla habituation, an experience where tourists spend 4 hours in the presence of mountain gorillas different from the usual 1 hour gorilla tracking experience.
Each family group has a certain number of members and some of these can be encountered while on your Uganda gorilla safari. The number of mountain gorillas in the different family groups keeps changing from time to time and this is due to certain factors such as death of members, birth of new members, new members joining the group and old members leaving the group.
