Mahale Mountains Chimpanzee Trekking
The mere mention of the Mahale Mountains National Park sends a thrill through the hearts of safari enthusiasts. Known for its exceptional chimpanzee trekking, Mahale offers one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife experiences. As you wander through the forest, the scent of fig trees, silk trees, mahogany, and nutmeg fills the air, adding to the magical atmosphere. You might spot a forest giant squirrel perched high on a branch, munching on nuts, or a colobus monkey foraging for seeds below. Then, suddenly, you step into a small clearing—and there they are—a group of chimpanzees. Their curious faces peer back at you, full of intrigue. A chimp safari in Mahale is unlike any other. This is your chance to get up close to our closest living relatives, sharing at least 95% of our DNA. Whether you’ve already experienced Africa’s Big Five and abundant wildlife, nothing compares to meeting the chimp family in their natural habitat. Spending time with these incredible creatures is a privilege that will stay with you forever.Location

Wildlife
Mahale is home to around a thousand chimpanzees, spread across various groups. The Mimikire clan (or M-group), which has been studied by Japanese researchers for decades, is especially accustomed to human presence. This group of 56 chimps is so comfortable with people that they will often approach you and make eye contact.
