Aberdare National Park Kenya

Aberdare national  National Park Kenya is located approximately 100 Kilometers north of Nairobi; Aberdare National Park covers altitudes from 4,300 meters (mountain peaks) to 2,100 meters (bamboo forests and rain forests).

Aberdare is 766 square kilometers in size and forms a significant part of the Aberdare Mountain Range.

The wildlife easily observed in the park are the African leopard, African bush elephant, East African wild dog, giant forest hog, bushbuck, mountain reedbuck, waterbuck, Cape buffalo, suni, side-striped jackal, eland, duikers, olive baboon, black and white colobus monkey and sykes monkey.

Rarer sightings include the African golden cat and the bongo, an elusive forest antelope that lives in the bamboo forest. Also, there is a large population of black rhino. In addition, there are over 250 species of birds, many endangered

Aberdare National Park is open for visitors to walk freely on the trails, have picnics and in the moorlands sector, camping is permitted. In terms of accommodation, there is quite a variety; from tree-house lodges to one built in the shape of Noah’s Ark. There are 3 self-help Banda sites, 8 special campsites in addition to the one mentioned, in the moorlands.

There are also 5 picnic sites in the park, strategically located to provide spectacular vistas and wildlife encounters. Visitors enjoy trout fishing and horseback riding in the park. Aberdare Park also has 2 airstrips; weigh and Nyeri, which give alternatives for those with limited visiting time.
