8 Days Classic Namibia Safari

This safari will take you to many of Namibia’s must-see natural wonders. We will visit the vast Namib Desert, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to some of the highest sand dunes in the world. Then we move onto the town of Swakopmund where the desert and the Atlantic coast come together. We will then make our way up along the Skeleton Coast and turn inland into the scenic Damaraland. Last but not least we’ll move onto Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s best game viewing destinations.

Day 1: Sossusvlei, Namib Desert

Welcome to Namibia! Your guide will meet you at the arrival’s hall of the airport, after which you will depart for Sossusvlei. We will drive through the Khomas Hochland and down the escarpment via one of the scenic mountains passes into the Namib Desert. We will make regular stops for photographs and to stretch our legs. This journey will take about 4 hours and we will arrive at our lodge late in the afternoon. Depending on the time of arrival, we can do a short walk around the lodge or meet up for sundowners. Later, we will enjoy dinner and plan our exciting day tomorrow. Main Destination: Sossusvlei (Sand Dunes) Accommodation: Namib Desert Lodge

Day 2: Swakopmund

We will be up before the sun rises to get ready for our Sossusvlei visit. We will enjoy a quick cup of coffee/tea and then wait for the entrance gates of the park to open. (The gates open at sunrise.) We will drive for about 30 minutes while appreciating the beauty of the sun that is rising over the amazing red dunes. The dunes in this area are some of the highest in the world, reaching almost 400 meters. They provide opportunities to capture wonderful images in the beautiful morning and evening light.   For the adventurous, you have the option of climbing or sliding down the dunes, or enjoy a brisk walk to Dead Vlei. You will have plenty of time to enjoy the many highlights that surrounds Sossusvlei itself.   We will take a break halfway and enjoy a picnic breakfast while enjoying the surrounding landscape. After a full morning’s activity, we will make our way to Swakopmund where we will spend 2 nights. Main Destination: Swakopmund (City) Accommodation: Driftwood Guesthouse

Day 3: Swakopmund

After breakfast, you will have the whole day to explore this lovely town and its surroundings. Swakopmund is known for its very relaxed atmosphere, and it has something for everybody. There are plenty of great restaurants and bars, good shopping opportunities and fascinating architecture. We can also assist in arranging some optional activities for you. If you are up for an adventure then there is quad biking, sand boarding or go for just a wonderful outdoors experience. There is a living desert tour or kayaking around pelican point. Other optional activities that could be arranged include scenic flights over the coast and dunes or a scenic catamaran sailing tour. Main Destination: Swakopmund (City) Accommodation: Driftwood Guesthouse

Day 4: Damaraland

Today we’ll continue our safari northwards along the Skeleton Coast. This bleak and evocatively named area is one of the most unusual coastal wildernesses on the planet, protecting about a third of Namibia’s long coastline. After visiting one of the many shipwrecks along the coast for some dramatic photographs, we will turn inland towards spectacular Damaraland. We will drive past the Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain. In the distance, we will also see the Spitzkoppe (sharp head), one of Namibia’s most recognizable landmarks. This beautiful mountainous region is home to an assortment of scientifically important desert-adapted wildlife such as elephant, rhino, zebra and lion, which somehow survive and thrive in this near-barren landscape. We hope to see some of them; a special treat indeed! We will be at our lodge in time for a sundowner drink while we enjoy the view over this rugged but beautiful landscape. Dinner will be enjoyed at our lodge. Main Destination: Twyfelfontein (Rock Art) Accommodation: Brandberg White Lady Lodge

Day 5: Etosha National Park

After breakfast, we will make our way north and visit the Twyfelfontein rock engravings (UNESCO World Heritage site), the organ pipes rock formation and the Petrified Forest en route to Etosha National Park. Here we will spend the next 3 nights. Afterwards, we’ll arrive at the lodge and freshen up. We will meet up just before sunset and then have dinner at our lodge. Main Destination: Etosha National Park Accommodation: Etosha Safari Camp

Day 6: Etosha National Park

We will explore the southwestern side of world famous Etosha Park today, going for a morning drive in our own vehicle after breakfast and returning to our lodge for lunch and a break in the heat of the day. In the drier months of the year, almost all the animals tend to congregate around the waterholes dotted around the massive park. They come to drink water and are inevitably followed by predators. This allows us to sit and wait at some of the waterholes and for the action to come to us. This is what sets Etosha apart from other parks in southern or east Africa; unique indeed! We will return to the lodge after our afternoon game drive in our own vehicle to enjoy dinner. Remember to look up before settling into your bed tonight—the African night sky, undisturbed by city lights out here in the bush, is truly amazing.   Main Destination: Etosha National Park Accommodation: Etosha Safari Camp

Day 7: Etosha National Park

From here, we will make our way across the park in a full day game drive in our own vehicle to the eastern boundary where we will exit the park. We will stop for lunch halfway at Halali Camp and then make our way to our overnight destination, which is about 2 hours from the Etosha National Park gate. After checking in and freshening up, we will meet up for sundowner drinks. Our final dinner will be enjoyed at our lodge. Main Destination: Etosha National Park Accommodation: Gabus Game Ranch

Day 8: Windhoek

After an early morning breakfast, we will depart for Windhoek where you will catch your connecting flight. Main Destination: Windhoek (City) Included
