6 Days Mount Elgon and sipi hiking safari overview
This safari takes you to Mount Elgon National Park with the 8th highest mountain in Africa and sipi falls located in eastern Uganda. Along your way, you will visit Mabira forest.
Brief itinerary
- Day 1: Transfer to Mount Elgon National Park via mabira Forest

- Day 5: Descend through sasa trail to budadiri and transfer to sipi

Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Kampala>Mount Elgon National Park via mabira forest. After breakfast, the guide will brief you about the safari. You will then depart to the Eastern part of Uganda with a stopover at Mabira forest for a nature walk. Along the way, you will spot the sugar cane plantations, tea plantations and local people selling goods on the roadside. Mabira is a rainforest where one gets to view and appreciate the lush greenery ground. After exploring mabira forest, you will have lunch then proceed to the park for check-in, dinner and overnight as you prepare for the next day’s hiking experience.
Day 2: Budadiri>sasa camp. After breakfast, you will start your hike through the sasa trail. It is the shortest but toughest route with an altitude of over 1,600m taking us up to sasa river camp for your dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Sasa camp>mude camp. Today after breakfast, you will continue with the hike through the rain forest to the mude cave campsite at an altitude of 3,500m. This hike takes about 4-5 hours. You will arrive, have lunch and then have an afternoon relaxation as you prepare for the next day’s hike to Wagagai peak.
Day 4: Mude camp>wagagai peak. After breakfast, you will ascend to the top of wagagai at an altitude of 4,321m with enroute packed lunch, have a photographic session with great sceneries and then descend through the Jackson summit (4,200m) to Mude cave camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Sasa trail>budadiri>sipi falls. After breakfast, you will take a long descent through the sasa trail back to the starting point at budadiri. You will have lunch then transfer to sipi falls for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Sipi falls>Kampala. After breakfast, you will head out for the Sipi falls hike. The Sipi falls is a series of three waterfalls and this is one of the top things to do on a tour to Uganda. Visiting all three falls takes approximately three hours depending on the fitness and speed of the individuals. You will start with the first and second waterfalls, take a break then continue to the main waterfall. The hike involves climbing steep terrains while passing through local farms with the guides explaining the historical and geographical background of the area. The nature walk also takes you through the local community of the sabiny where you will get to learn about their traditional way of life such as the circumcision ceremony. After this experience, you will depart sipi and start your journey back to Kampala, arriving in the later in evening. Optional drop off at your hotel or at the airport for your flight.
