Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:  Arrival in Kigali & Volcanoes National Park

On the first day of your 4 Days Rwanda Gorilla trekking and Bisoke hike safari, you will be met at Kigali International Airport by your Jewel Safaris guide, who will give you a brief tour of Kigali City before beginning your drive to the Volcanoes National Park.  After lunch in Kigali, you will then drive to Volcanoes National Park, approximately a 2-hour drive from Kigali City center.

Upon reaching your accommodation, you will either rest up for the next day’s activity, or visit the community that has traditionally lived in and around the park.  This will give you the opportunity to learn about the people, their way of life and even taste some local dishes. 

Overnight at the preferred accommodation facility.

Day 2: Gorilla Tracking – Virunga National Park

After breakfast, your Rwanda gorilla tracking experience begins. You’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting your trek in search of one of the 12 habituated mountain gorilla families. The trek varies in length depending on the gorillas’ location.

After tracking, enjoy lunch in Musanze or at Lake Ruhondo. Optional activities include visiting local craft markets or the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

Day 3: Hiking the Bisoke Volcano

Gear up for a morning adventure on Mount Bisoke, famous for its summit crater lake. The Bisoke hike takes between 3–6 hours to climb and 1–2 hours to descend. Expect stunning landscapes and rare plant life. This hike is a great physical complement to your gorilla trekking Rwanda experience.

Day 4:  Kigali airport city tour

After breakfast, you will be picked up at your hotel and have you Kigali City highlights including the Genocide Memorial Centre, local art galleries, and coffee shops. After your tour, your driver will drop you at the airport for your flight.

The climb takes from 3 to 6 hours depending on your abilities, and 1 – 2 hours to descend.  The hikes begin at 7 am with a briefing, and set off around 8. Porters are assigned to carry your luggage.
