5 Days Kidepo Valley National Park wildlife safari overview
The Safari takes you to Kidepo Valley National Park which is located in north eastern Uganda bordering Kenya and South Sudan. Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the best tourist destinations with a lot of animals and beautiful landscapes despite being a remote and unexplored park in Uganda but it was ranked one of the best in east Africa.
Brief itinerary
- Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kitgum
- Day 2: Transfer from Kitgum to Kidepo Valley national park
- Day 3: Game drive
- Day 4: Visiting the Karamojong community
- Day 5: Transfer to Kampala
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Kampala>Kitgum. Have breakfast very early in the morning from the hotel. The jewel safari driver will arrive and brief you about the whole safari and then set off for the journey heading north towards Kitgum town. The time spent from Kampala to Kitgum is about 4 hours. You may purchase fruits from Luwero because of the plenty of fruits in the community and then proceed via Nakasongala district viewing the open savannah grasslands. You will continue to Gulu town where you will have lunch. After lunch, you will proceed to Kitgum for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Kitgum>Kidepo Valley National Park. Have breakfast and then transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park. You will view green savannah along the way and beautiful landscape. On arrival at Kidepo valley national park, you will have views of mountains, rocks, animals and plenty of bird species. Check-in with the park’s office enroute to the lodge with game drive along the park’s trails spotting, herds of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, leopards, cheetahs, bush babies and zebras to list a few. You will check in at the lodge for lunch and later have an afternoon relaxation awaiting dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Game Drive. Have breakfast early in the morning and then head out for the morning game drive with a well-armed game ranger. Spot the lions, leopards, giraffes, elephants, bush babies, cheetah to mention but a few and you may also be able to spot some bird species. You will explore the park then return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you may opt to visit the hot springs in Kidepo and the rocky places viewing the landscape. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Visiting the Karamojong community. Have breakfast and you will head out to visit the Manyattas for a cultural experience. While there, you can participate in activities like milking the cows, the Mori traditional dance, blood suckling from the cows and interacting with the local people to learn about their way of life. Later you will return to the lodge, have lunch and enjoy an afternoon relaxation.
Day 5: Kidepo Valley National Park>Kampala. Wake up very early in the morning, have breakfast and embark on the journey to Kampala. You will view different activities done alongside the road en route. Lunch will be in Gulu and then you will proceed to Kampala reaching later in the night with optional drop off at the hotel for dinner and overnight or at the airport for your flight.
